We are the MOMS Club® of Metairie-South Chapter. Our chapter has much to offer the stay at home mom.
We meet during the day when moms need support the most. A little background on what we do. We are meeting a minimum of two days a week and a maximum of five. You are welcome to attend as little or as much as you want and your schedule permits. All ages are welcome to attend any function. MCMS has members with five year olds and members with infants (and everything in between). We meet every Tuesday at the park and every Thursday at McDonald's. When the weather is extremely hot, we begin substituting park days for swimming/water play at members' homes. Usually, the water days only last from late May till late September. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays we put things like the zoo, aquarium, nature center, children's museum, Chuck E Cheese, library reading/craft times, play dates and luncheons at members' homes and more. All members are welcome to suggest and host a function on the calendar provided there is not another function on that day.
We have a monthly mom’s night out where we get together for dinner and drinks somewhere. Past mom’s nights out have even included a movie and bowling. It’s all up to whatever is suggested because this is our night to relax and chat.
Our chapter has a meal coordinator that handles organizing meals for our members who have had surgery, illness in the family or a baby. We all cook and freeze a meal or two or bring a freshly cooked meal the same day to the member in need so at least three days a week for a couple of weeks the member can have something to serve her family.
MCMS has a monthly business meeting where all the new business is conducted such as suggesting new outings, getting volunteers for programs such as the newsletter, mom’s night out coordinator and other programs to make the group more beneficial for all of us. We also do a few service projects a year. Past service projects have included collecting items for battered women's shelters, collecting books and movies for the children's hospital wards, and Project Linus (making blankets for children who are ill and riding in medical helicopters).
Once or more a year, we hold a spring/fall open house at a park where all the members bring a dish and we rent a space walk. This is advertised in the newspaper and past open houses have had wonderful turnouts. Our club has had much success in gaining a good portion of our membership from the open houses.
There are five board positions and various volunteer positions in our group. Each year elections are held for those board positions. If you are interested in a board position or a volunteer position, there is the opportunity for that.
If you have any questions, please feel free to email our Vice-President of Membership at stacy@decossas.com . We look forward to meeting you at one of our upcoming functions!!!
Sincerely,
The Board of MOMS Club of Metairie-South
